A TACARIGUA man’s attempt to stop another man from beating a woman resulted in him being beaten, then shot dead outside a bar in Malabar early yesterday morning.
Police said the first incident occurred around 5.30 a.m. when the victim, Ashton Hamlet, 26, was at the Pro Bar along Malabar Branch Road.
As he was leaving the bar he observed an argument between a man and a woman in a car.
Hamlet approached the car and told the man about his behaviour toward the woman.
The man then started arguing with Hamlet.
Another man joined the argument both began beating Hamlet about the body.
As Hamlet lay on the ground, the man walked to his car, got a gun and approached Hamlet, shooting him in the chest killing him instantly, police said.
The two men and the woman then fled the scene.
Arima CID officers along with Crime Scene Unit investigators later arrived and after retrieving evidence the body was moved to the Port of Spain Mortuary.
A post-mortem is expected to be done tomorrow at the Forensic Science Centre, St James.
Homicide Bureau officers are continuing investigations.
The other incident occurred around 8 a.m. at Clifford Street, Belmont.
Police said Jude Corbie, 23, was walking along the street when a car slowed near him.
A man in the vehicle pointed a gun at Corbie and shot him several times about the body, killing him on the spot.
The car sped away.
Residents contacted police and Emergency Health Services but Corbie was already dead by the time they arrived.
Police suspect that the motive behind Corbie’s death may have stemmed from an altercation he had with another man on Friday night.
Police are searching for the man. - Express
